and General Prior of S.Eufemia of The Sov. Order of Malta.
"Son cadet of Camillo Pignatelli II Duke of Monteleone , III Count of
Borrello and Giulia Carafa . Knight of the Sov. Order of Malta , Priore of
S.Eufemia , Capitano Generale in the Flanders in 1540. Called in 1562 by the
Viceroy Perafan de Ribera Duke of Alcala' in the Calabria , to fight Turks
and Brigantage , he defeated both of them and he returned to Naples in 1563,
where he set up the Hospital of Pellegrini .
Seriously ill , he could not leave for Malta in 1565 , to defend the Island
from the Turks , but instead he funded an expedition of 300 soldiers led by
his relative Francesco Capece , Knight of Malta .
He died in Naples in 1577 always supporting and caring its beloved Hospital
